DMSO 99.9% Pure Liquid, 8 Oz, DMSO Inc <<<<<-------  THIS IS A LINK TO THE BETTER DMSO

Dimethyl sulfoxide DMSO was first synthesized in 1866 by Russian scientist Alexander Saytzeff, who noted that the substance was color less, smelt like garlic, was oily to the touch, resembled mineral oil when poured and tasted like clams or oysters. It combined with almost any chemical and was an excellent solvent proving extremely useful as a de-greaser, paint thinner and anti-freeze. It was only after World War II that chemists started to show an active interest in the substance, and in 1959, British chemists demonstrated that it protected red blood cells and other tissues against freezing conditions. It is a reagent that can speed up some chemical reactions a billion fold. Basically the substance is a simple byproduct of the paper-making process. It can be derived from lignin, the cement substance of trees, and can also be synthesized from coal, petroleum or other organic substances.

What amazed scientists and chemists alike was the liquid's tremendous capacity to dissolve substances. It's unique capability to penetrate living tissues without causing significant damage is related to its relatively compact structure and polar nature as well as its capacity to accept hydrogen bonds. This combination of properties allows it to associate with water, proteins, carbohydrates, nucleic acid, ionic substances and other constituents of living systems. In the understanding of the possible functions of DMSO in biological systems, of premier importance is its ability to replace some of the water molecules associated with the cellular constituents. But what really caused a scientific 'buzz' was its drying effect. Since wetness or moisture generally tends to instigate infection, the dryness of a therapeutic agent makes it very valuable in the treatment of burns. Laboratory tests proved that it easily passed through skin and mucous membranes with the added advantage of being able to carry along with it other substances as well during its passage. For example, if either a local anesthetic or penicillin is dissolved in DMSO they can be carried through the skin and into all organs of the body without using a needle!  was first used as a pharmacologic agent in 1962 and gained fame as a chemical that could relieve inflammation and pain in many conditions, including those that had remained untreatable by all other methods. Early studies had revealed that it could relieve pain, reduce swelling, hamper bacterial growth, soften scar tissue, improve blood supply, was an effective muscle relaxant, could act as a diuretic and could also enhance the effectiveness of other pharmacologic agents. In addition, the pain of sprains, burns, strains, arthritis-even those of broken bones-was completely eliminated. DMSO kills viruses and fungi and works marvelously against cataracts, sports injuries, scleroderma, myasthenia gravis and tuberculosis. In persons with Down's syndrome, the mental retardation has been considerably lessened. It has been popularly prescribed by vets for arthritic conditions and injuries in animals.

Summary of its general medical uses

DMSO has at least forty major therapeutic properties which act beneficially in the process of healing traumas to the body and brain. Here are sixteen of the more common ones:

It blocks the transfer of pain messages, from the site of injury to the brain , by interrupting conduction in the small non-myelinated nerve fibers. Thus, it is one of the finest topically-applied pain killers known to man.

It is potently anti-inflammatory and marvelous as an anti-arthritic remedy.

Since it is bacteriostatic, fungi static and virostatic it inhibits the growth of pathogenic micro-organisms.

It transports numerous pharmaceuticals across body membranes, thereby administering them topically without resorting to injections.

It reduces the incidence of platelet thrombi in blood vessels thus preventing or reducing the formation of blood clots.

It has a specific effect on cardiac contractility by holding back calcium from muscle fiber absorption, thus reducing the workload of the heart .

It acts as a tranquilizer, producing brain sedation, even when simply rubbed into the skin.

It enhances the actions of anti-fungal and antibacterial agents when combined with them for internal or external application.

It is a vasodilator, probably related to histamine release in the cell s and to prostaglandin inhibition.

It stops the release of cholinesterase, an enzyme that causes the breakdown of acetylcholine, which is one of the B complex vitamin forms necessary for healthy neuronal functions.

It tends to soften collagen as a means of preventing or reducing scars and keloids by its peculiar cross-linking effects

It scavenges the hydroxyl free radical so as to reduce tissue deterioration in ageing .

It stimulates various types of immunity, especially the blood 's natural killer cells that are derived from lymphocytes.

It is a potent diuretic, particularly when administered intravenously.

It brings about interferon formation in the organism as an express means of boosting immunological response.

It stimulates the healing of wounds of all types, both external and internal.

This drug has the widest range and greatest number of therapeutic actions ever shown for any single chemical. It also has the ability to grow cumulative in its effects. Since it attacks the disease itself rather than just the symptoms, it has been observed that lesser amounts of  DMSO are needed to achieve results with the passage of time. This is truly the unique and different quality of this chemical, since most other drugs generally require increasingly heavier dosages over time to maintain therapeutic levels. There is absolutely no doubt that it has proved to have interesting and valuable biological properties

Additional uses for DMSO:

Of all the areas in which dimethyl sulfoxide might be used, the public seems to be most interested in applying it for various forms of arthritis, however, informed health professional know that the solvent has a vast array of other applications. In fact, in the medical and pharmaceutical literature this product is declared to have the widest range and greatest number of therapeutic chemical uses.

Since there are several hundred therapeutic uses of DMSOthe following is merely a partial listing of its myriad applications for the consumer's medical armamentarium:

Brain and spinal cord damage

In the same way that reserves the effects of embolic or hemorrhagic stroke, it is superior to any other treatment for high velocity missile (gunshot) wounds to the brain. It's necessary to employ DMSO by mouth and intravenously as soon as possible after the head wound occurs. The healing qualities of DMSO also work quickly to bring injured spinal cord tissues back to normal.

Down's syndrome

DMSO administered as a 50 percent diluted drink given in the equivalent of one half of a gram per Kg. to affected children brought them back to normal. It is utilized orally throughout Argentina and Chile for the treatment of Down's syndrome and mental retardation.

Sciatica and lumbar disc problems

When 20 to 50 cc of 20 percent DMSO combined with the local anesthetic Xylocaine are injected for three to five consecutive days intramuscularly into a painful back area, the pain disappears and remains gone for longer intervals between series of injections. A 20 percent strength of pharmaceutical grade DMSO injected into diseased spinal discs rids the patient of nerve pain from the damaged discs.

Keloids, scars, acne, and burns

Applied topically and repeatedly, DMSO flattens the raised, nodular, lobulated liner mass of scar tissue in keloids and acne. It takes away much of their discoloration too. And for eliminating the pain of burns of all types, nothing is better.

Full -strength DMSO painted on sprained anklets, pulled muscle, dislocated joints and even at the site of simple fractures takes away their pain like magic. It's main healing tool for trainers and coaches of professional athletes. Surprisingly, when applied topically, DMSO is better tolerated in higher concentrations below the waist rather than above the waist. Yet it is more effective above the waist, having the quickest response for problems involving the face, neck, shoulders, upper limbs and upper back and trunk. It should be used with a concern for side effects such as the sensation of burning. The solution's concentration should be lowered if any discomfort occurs.

Foot - disorders

Among greatest patient successes was the application of topical DMSO for the pain relief of corns, calluses, bunions, hammertoes, ingrown toenails, planter warts, and fissures between the toes.

There are hundreds of patients with various ailments who have been successfully treated with Intravenous as well as topical applications of DMSO both in India and abroad. In addition, the  DMSO hematoxylon formulation, along with certain herbs, has been successfully used in treating cancer patients.

Cancer

As an excellent adjunct in metabolic cancer therapy,  DMSO potentates chemotherapy. DMSO and hamatoxylon administered intravenously as a combination have excellent tumor shrinking qualities. The mixture is especially corrective for adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, prostate cancer, breast cancer, lymphoma and some other solid tumors.

Diabetes

DMSO taken by mouth lessens the need for insulin in one out of four persons with juvenile diabetes. Also, DMSO given IV improves the peripheral vascular blood supply of diabetics by dilating smaller vessels of the lower limbs

Nasal sinusistis, tic douboureaus, and headache

Placed directly into the nostrils, DMSO opens blocked sinuses in a few minutes. It does this by crossing all membranes of the body without destroying tissue integrity.

For tic douloureaus, topically applied DMSO brings relief within four days, but it is faster and more lasting when injected directly into the spasmotic muscle's trigger points.

Employed topically to the forehead and back of the neck, DMSO should take away headaches within thirty minutes.

Skin diseases, ulcerations, and external herpes

Such skin difficulties as pityriasis rosa, tinea versicolor and eczematoid determatitis clears up by the topical applications of DMSO. Additionally, there will be rapid healing of chronic varicose ulcers, diabetic ulcers and ulcerations related to mycotic infections.

DMSO painted onto the painful lesions connected with herpes zoster (shingles) will remove their neurological symptoms at once. It works well when put on the cold sores of herpes simplex as well.

Cataracts and other eye problems

An ophthalmologist has developed a formula for dissolving cataracts without surgery. Combining DMSO with ** super oxide dismutase (SOD), this eye doctor's formulation works against glaucoma too.

There are hundreds of patients with various ailments who have been successfully treated with intravenous as well as topical applications of DMSO both in India and abroad. In addition, the DMSO-hematoxylon formulation, along with certain herbs, has been successfully used in treating cancer patients.
